Opel Mokka: There are compared to the new

Since the Mokka owes its success primarily to its continuously appealing design, this update does not allow a radical optical change. The headlights receive a new light signature at the front and back, based on its new big brother, the Grandland. The logos have been revised, two new colors are added, the new rims give a noble note – and that was almost.

The possibility of choosing a contrasting black roof to the body color is of course preserved. There are also only subtle changes in the interior: the climate media module has been revised with more elegant « keys ». The Mokka focuses primarily on equipment and technology and now offers more customization options for its two 10-inch displays, and chatt, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as an 180 ° return camera are now included as standard.

Petrol, hybrid or electric?

The mokka was offered as an electric and petrol model from the start, and last year a hybrid variant came into the range. This continues to produce 136 hp and now represents the commercial figurehead of the model. In addition to it, only the more powerful variants of the petrol and electrical version remain- a conscious decision to better stand out from the new little brother Frontera within the Opel model range.

While the Frontera is positioned as a compact family SUV, the Mokka aims at a younger, trend-conscious clientele. In the case of petrol engines, only the 1.2-liter with 130 hp (automatic transmission) or 136 hp (manual transmission) is preserved. With the electrical version, only the long-range variant with 156 hp engine and 54 kWh battery is offered. These engines fit well into the segment, even if some miss an even more powerful version at the top of the portfolio.

Driving fun and comfort

The mocha benefits from finely coordinated chassis adjustments that make it even more pleasant in everyday life. Although he is not the most character of the character in his segment, it is still convincing with its precise steering, which delivers good feedback, as well as a well -balanced chassis that absorbs bumps and keeps the body stable in curves. There can be no question of sportiness (from zero to 100 in 8.2 seconds in hybrid), but it conveys a certain joy of driving.

Hybrid motorization in particular is a real highlight. Although the electric motor only produces 28 HP, it shines through its ability to optimize emission -free driving phases up to about 120 km/h. This ensures a gentle, even acceleration and a pleasantly quiet journey. The consumption remains low: Opel indicates 4.8 l/100 km – a value that is realistically accessible in everyday use. The electrical version in turn convinces with the same efficiency: 402 km range are given, which also seems credible. The mocha offers good everyday suitability for different areas of application.

Well equipped ex works

Our rediscovery of the Mokka pleasantly surprised us! The small SUV should not be forgotten because there is a serious alternative to its younger competitors. However, an aggressive entry price than the 21,017 euros (petrol engine), 24,498 euros (hybrid) and 31,895 euros (electrical) would not have hurt. Fortunately, this is compensated for by extensive standard equipment that already leaves no desires in the « Edition » equipment line (automatic air conditioning, LED headlights with high-beam assistants, rain sensors, park sensors at the back and all mandatory driver assistance systems).

The interior is minimalistic, with a large screen and a few buttons. High quality materials and comfortable seats ensure comfort. Photo: Opel
