Only one matriculation has changed his second matriculation of mathematics to study economy
Only one adult changed the subject in which he initially chose to lay his second compulsory matriculation, and chose mathematics to apply in an economic specialty. This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) in response to questions of Dnevnik.
At the height of the University’s candidate campaigns, the Ministry of Education announced changes to the admission in some of the specialties. Starting this year, 15% of the admission to Administration and Management and Economics will be tied to the state matriculation exam in mathematics. For the next academic year, the admission with a matriculation will be greater – 50%. The change aims to improve the quality of education in economic specialties and to provide students and graduates of better opportunities for successful realization.
The change was announced a month after the deadline for the adults had to choose the second subject on which they would take the exam. The second matriculation is a profiling subject studied in grades 11 and 12. For students from vocational high schools, the exam is by profession. Therefore, the Ministry of Education has opened the system for submitting applications for matriculation within ten days.
Education Minister Krasimir Valchev explained that adults would be able to change the subject they chose to appear in the second matriculation and choose mathematics. Alternatively, they can appear on the third additional matriculation in mathematics.
Matriculation in mathematics becomes an entrance to economic specialties, universities are afraid of declining in admission
The press center reported a Dnevnik that only one adult changed its second matriculation, and 44 students chose to appear in the third additional matriculation in mathematics on general education (from 8th to 10th grade). Within the time limit for changing the exams, only two adults have chosen to appear in the third matriculation of mathematics on the profiled preparation, which covers the material from the last two years in high school.
The ministry’s reference has understood that a total of 715 adults will take an exam in mathematics on general education, and 1389 twelfth graders will take an exam on the profiled one. A total of 318 students will take a matriculation in mathematics as an additional third state exam. |
The Rector of the University of Economics – Varna, Prof. Dr. Evgeni Stanimirov argued his proposal by the fact that many adults would worry that they would reduce their average success from the high school diploma if they choose mathematics matriculation, and with the passing of the candidate exam, this will be avoided. The idea is to control the exam by the ministry. If higher education institutions are able to organize an exam for the current candidate campaign, it will apply to the rest of the reception of 85%.
