One year after the dreadful attack, an incredible miracle happens

At the end of June 2022, Addison Bethea and her half -brother, Rhett Willingham, were drawn to a fateful event as they appealed their boat at an idyllic sandbank off the coast of Keaton Beach, North Florida.
What should have been a relaxing fishing trip in the shallow water turned into a terrifying meeting with a terrifying enemy.
In a later BBC documentary entitled « Why Shark’s Attack », Addison, the young woman, alive, vividly about the creepy incident. She could clearly remember the moment she felt something jerking in her legs, and immediately assumed it was her brother Rhett.
But the fear grabbed her when she realized she was in the claws of a shark.

She described how she did not feel any pain at first when she was attacked, and only realize that she was in serious danger when the shark began to bite her thighs. With incredible resilience, she stabbed the shark in the eye to free herself, but the fight was odd.
Rhett, who was present during the attack, turned out to be the crucial lifeguard for his sister. With his background as a firefighter and emergency doctor, he did not hesitate to respond to her desperate screams for help.
He fought heroically against the shark and managed to free Addison before being rescued by a nearby skipper.
Addison was rushed to a hospital in Tallahasee and underwent six operations.
Despite the terrible amputation of her right leg just above her knee, she remained strong and focused on recovering. She set the goal of going again and performing her beloved activities, including walking on the Rugby track as a cheerleader.
The greatest miracle
After an impressive and inspiring recovery, Addison returned to school just three months after the attack, with an impressive adaptation to its leg prosthesis.
She became a true source of strength for her fellow students and proved that nothing could stop her.
Addison’s tireless willingness to overcome challenges continued, and she stood triumphantly on the rugby court again with her leg prosthesis.
Her willpower and dedication made her cross points from her list of goals, and she was standing alone on her exam day in May 2023.
A fateful date approached, on July 1, when she, along with her brother, returned to the place that had become a scene for her dramatic battle with the shark. Miraculously, she felt safe and able to resume her normal routine without fear or emotional burdens.
However, the greatest miracle turned out to be an unexpected milestone in Addison’s life. She gladly announced that she and her high school boyfriend were expecting their first child in December.
In addition to preparing for motherhood, Addison has now taken a mission on himself to enlighten people about the beauty of the sea and not fear it. She points out that we must remember that we are in the shark’s territory and that they have their own instincts and needs.
