One of the most multifaceted bike paths closed for over a year

It is planned to close one of the most multifaceted bicycle paths in the capital area for over one year due to construction. They started this week and will not end until August next year. Passengers are made to take a long distance, due to land conservation.

It is planned to renew heating utilities from Borgarholtsbraut along Hafnarfjarðarvegur.

The route is one of the capital routes of the capital area and is a common route to Reykjavik for the residents of Hafnafjörður, Gardabaer and Kópavogur, but the chapter in question extends from Hamraborg to south and out of Kopavogstún.

The laying of a new path in this section is part of the state and local transport agreement in the metropolitan area and the construction has been in place for some time. When the pipeline is completed, Kópavogsbær will launch a new bicycle and footpath in this section.

Many complaints

These projects will cause considerable disruption to cycling traffic and walking around the area. Many complaints have been received to Erlend Thorsteinsson, chairman of the National Cycling Association, for the case. The complaints are directed, among other things, on the route that is about to offer people.

« This is a widely used path, » says Erlendur. He adds that the pedestrian and cycling routes are often decorative and that in this case people have no realistic chance of getting their leads without going through the surrounding neighborhood.

Foreigners say they have not received any pictures from the area and therefore has not formed an opinion on whether the route needs to be fixed.

He says that if the routes are not maintained, this could affect part of cycling and pedestrians this winter. « Then the traffic increases, » he says.

Not the same treatment for driving

Foreigners say that if there had been traffic of road users, road users had not been addressed. « If these were drivers, it would have started to have aside aside, » he says.

He recalls construction work on Stekkjabakki, which were a few years ago, which had to be recorded both the street and the path. He says there was a paved lane for cars but that nothing has been done for pedestrians and cyclists.

It is worth noting that the construction will also affect the bus where bus routes 1 and 2 will not stop Kársnes side at Kópavogsdalur. It is done to ensure the safety of road users.
