One of Francis’ papa -vehicles becomes a mobile clinic for children in Gaza
One of Pope Francis’ papa -vehicles is transformed into a mobile health clinic for children in the Gaza Strip, fulfilling one of his last wishes, official media reported the Vatican.
The vehicle used by the late Pope during his visit to the Holy Land in 2014 is equipped with diagnostic and emergency medical equipment to help young patients in the Palestinian enclave, where health services are devastated by Israeli invasion.
Pope Francis, who died last month, entrusted the Catholic Aid Initiative Caritas Jerusalem in the months before his death, Vatican News reported.
« This is a specific, life -saving intervention at a time when the Gaza healthcare system is almost completely collapsed, » Peter Brune, Secretary -General of Caritas Sweden, told Vatican News, who supports the project.

The mobile unit will be equipped with quick tests for infection, vaccines, diagnostic tools and thread kits, and will be served by medical staff. Caritas plans to deploy the clinic in communities without access to functioning healthcare facilities after humanitarian access to gas has become possible.
« It’s not just a vehicle, » Brun added. « This is a message that the world has not forgotten about the children in Gaza. »
Gaza has a small Christian community and the Vatican said Francis called at the Holy Family church in Gaza almost daily during most of the war, which began in October 2023, when Hamas fighters attacked South Israel.

Francis had several papa car. Used during his visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories in 2014 remained in the region after his return to the Vatican.
A conclave for choosing a new pope begins on May 7.
