Two in ten Flemish teachers questioned will deposit the work on Monday. This is apparent from a survey by TACHER TAPP Flanders, an app from Arteveldehogeschool, at 1,143 teachers. The teachers stopped out of dissatisfaction with the pension plans of the De Wever government.

Teacher Tapp Vlaanderen is a project from Arteveldehogeschool that presents three multiple choice questions to a sample of education professionals. It is mainly about teachers, but also managements and support staff. In collaboration with the Belga news agency, the teachers were asked on Thursday whether they will strike on Monday 31 March.

Exactly 20 percent of the teachers surveyed say they put down the work. However, a large majority will simply be in front of the class: 71 percent say they will not stop. Another 5 percent say they are still undecided, 1 percent would rather not say this and the demand does not apply to 3 percent. These are provisional figures that do not distinguish between teachers in primary education or secondary education.

The Common Trade Union Front ABVV and ACV is organizing a general strike on Monday 31 March, which also includes the public sector and therefore also education. Education unions ACOD Education, COC, COV and VSOA education have announced that they are struggling.

The trade unions protest against the pension plans of the De Wever government. For example, their pension will soon be calculated in the same way with a transition period as that of employees from the private sector. Under the old system, teachers get a full pension faster.

On Monday it is already the third educational strike in a row. During the strike of January 13, more than 34,000 Flemish teachers put down the work, a historically high number. One month later that was more than four times less. The domes expect that Monday’s strike will not be as heavy as that of January.
