On visit to the Prince Palace in Monaco

The Prince’s Palace in Monaco is located in the old part of the city, known as Monaco-Ville or « Le Rocher » (rock). It is spectacularly located on a rocky promontory that rises about 60 meters above the sea level and dominates the port of Monaco (port Hercules).

The palace offers spectacular panoramic views over the Mediterranean Sea, the port with luxury yachts and the mountains that frame the principality. Access is usually made on foot, climbing the medieval streets in Monaco-Ville or by bus 1 which is taken from how to go out of Monaco Monte Carlo railway station.
The princely palace (Palais Prince de Monaco) is the official residence of the sovereign prince of the Principality of Monaco and a symbol of the continuity of the Grimaldi dynasty, which has been living here for over 700 years.
Originally built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress, the palace was captured in 1297 by François Grimaldi, who, according to the legend, penetrated disguised in the monk to take control over the fortress. This story is illustrated on the official coat of arms of Monaco.
The shift of the guard takes place daily at 11:55 am in front of the palace and is a popular event among tourists.

The entrance ticket is purchased from the official store to the right of the palace and costs 10 € or € 17 with visiting the car collection of Prince Albert.
The two rooms, Salon Rouge and Salon Bleu Dit Măignon, leave a special impression. Are magnificently decorated and arranged. The first is the red one, then the blue one.

The red room (Salon Rouge) in the Prince’s Palace in Monaco is one of the most spectacular and symbolic rooms of the official residence of the Grimaldi family. It impresses with the richness of the decor and the importance of the events that take place here.
It is the salon in which the official ceremony of royal civil marriages takes place. For example, here the civil marriage of Prince Albert II with Charlene Wittstock was held in 2011.
Dominated by deep shades of burgundy, heavy velvet and brocade, the room has a solemn and royal atmosphere. Rich tapisari, Louis XV style furniture.

Was used for private meetings and as a restricted reception salon. It is one of the most intimate and refined rooms of the palace.
