« On it, politicians bear all responsibility »
Thorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir, Minister of Justice, does not agree with the former Chief of Police in the Suðurnes region that the National Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Director is responsible for neglecting border control in this country. She says he hang a baker for the carpenter, as politicians are all responsible for the state of the border.
This was stated in an interview with her in the episode Explosive sand on the wave this morning.
Úlfar Lúðvíksson, former police chief in the Suðurnes region, said in a question in Friday that it had been a mistake for Iceland to become a member of the Schengen cooperation, but remedies were to work better.
However, it was painful that this was not done and the border has largely been exposed for many years.
He said the Minister of Justice is responsible together with Haukur Guðmundsson, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Justice, and Sigríður Björk Guðjónsdóttir, the National Commissioner of Police, who are both members of the National Security Council. Their neglect in these matters was such that they should both depart from their offices.
« In brilliantly fine cooperation » with the prime minister
« I think he is being debt to officials when he should be looking at the politics, » the Minister of Justice said of the former police chief’s comments.
« He himself has taken care of the border as a police officer in the Suðurnes region for five years. I heard him to refer to the responsibility of the National Commissioner of Police that she should vacate or resign because she has taken care of the border and achieved appropriate results. »
Thorbjörg said the National Commissioner of Police his good work and that she should have « brilliantly good cooperation » with the prime minister.
She had a certain understanding that Ulf considered that border positions were not good enough.
« Politicians have all the responsibility, » Thorbjörg reiterated.
The big news changes to the office in the Suðurnes region
She said the big news in the case, however, was that the government was strengthening and expanding the office of the Chief of Police in the Suðurnes region. Which was why she invited Wolves to her meeting earlier this month.
Wolves requested an immediate solution from work when the Minister of Justice told him that she intended to advertise his job for application, but Ulf’s appointment was due in November. The Minister of Justice said the reason was major changes to the office’s tasks. Wolves himself wants to mean that he has been shown the passport.
Thorbjörg said now finally to set up a departure center on the border, along with an Research Center. At the same time, she would be looking at the transfer of the National Commissioner of Police to the police chief in the Suðurnes region and at the same time amending the law in such a way that the Chief of Police could dismiss people on the border.
