The OMV is expanding its hydrogen strategy – a large system in Bruck is said to deliver 23,000 tons annually. Production starts in 2027.

The Austrian oil, gas and chemical company OMV has announced the construction of a hydrogen electrolysis system in Bruck on the Leitha in Lower Austria. Subject to a positive promotion of the European and the Austrian hydrogen bank, the sub -state group wants to invest a « medium three -digit » million amount in a new facility with a capacity of 140 megawatts (MW), emerges from Wednesday.

The new electrolyser is said to produce up to 23,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, the system will be one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Production should start by the end of 2027. Since the end of 2024, the OMV has already operated a hydrogen electrolyser with a capacity of 10 MW and an annual production capacity of up to 1,500 tons of green hydrogen. The facility is currently the largest of its kind in Austria. At the end of 2026, the also part -state energy group networking together with Burgenland Energie plans to put an electrolyser with initially 60 MW and then in the expansion stage 300 MW output.
