In the event of a major accident on Sunday morning on the Buitenring in Wezembeek-Oppem, a passenger of a vehicle died. It’s an older woman. Four other people, including two children, were sneaked and had to be freed by the fire brigade. They were taken seriously injured to the hospital. The dad and a child are in danger. It would be a family that was on the way back from a wedding party.
The accident happened just before 8 am at the Wezembeek-Oppem exit. A vehicle rammed the crash barrier and ended up against concrete blocks of a bridge pillar. « Images show that the car of the second lane would have moved to the breakdown and the grass reservation and eventually ended up on the right flank, » says spokeswoman Ingrid Moriau of the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office.
The five passengers were pinched. The medical intervention plan was immediately announced. The fire brigade, five ambulances and 3 MUGs came to the scene with the federal police.
Traffic expert appointed
The five passengers, who were trapped, were liberated, but for one woman there could be no help anymore. « One passenger, the grandmother, did not survive the accident. The father and one child were taken to the hospital in danger. The mother and the second child would not be in danger of life, » said Moriau.
The ring remains closed for a long time over two riding compartments. The public prosecutor appointed a traffic expert to further investigate the precise circumstances of the accident. (DBG)
