OM: More evidence against brothers in honor killings Ryan from Joure

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has new evidence against the brothers of Ryan, the 18-year-old woman who was found dead at the end of May 2024 in the water at the Knardijk in Lelystad. That reports The Leeuwarder Courantwho was present at the court session on Friday.

Research into messages on the telephones of the brothers shows that there have been plans for months before Ryan’s dead to poison her, including with a toxic houseplant, a euthanasie pill or a bullet fish. In WhatsApp interviews, a brother spoke about the use of the poisonous plant and her sister responded with: « Her death is halal anyway. » According to the OM, that means that Ryan’s death was deemed religious by family members.

Ryan is said to have violated the honor of her family from Syria by, according to them, to behave « in Western ». Her brothers, suspects Muhanad and Mohamed Al N., both in their twenties, would have killed her for that reason. Their father, Khaled Al N., also counts as a suspect. He fled shortly after his daughter’s death via Bremen and Turkey to Syria. Because he is still on the run, only the brothers are on trial for the time being.

Ryan’s body was found last year with tape over her mouth and nose. Her hands and legs were tied. According to the judiciary, she was probably killed by drowning.

Serious security

Ryan was under heavy security for some timebut that protection was ended before her death. The security measures fell under the system monitoring and securing the National Coordinator for the fight against terrorism and safety, which is intended to protect people who may be the target of a (terrorist) assessment.

The OM does not mean why Ryan was secured, when that protection stopped and what it looked like. The court in Lelystad has answered those questions on Friday, writes ANP news agency, and believes that it can give those answers without sharing details that would harm and protect the system.

Ryan had been in the picture for auxiliary agencies for a long time. At home she would have been physically abused and are forced to marry a boy.
