Olympic Games organizers are convinced that Cortinian D’Ampeco Ice Track will be able to pick up a race / day
Prior to the upcoming Olympics, the Old Ice Track of the Cortina D’Ampeco is almost completely rebuilt and only the track is completely restored in less than a year. It is planned that the track will be fully completed in the first week of November.
Last week, test rides were taken on the ice track on the ice track, after which Vernie admitted that « the race would no doubt be here. » The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) also confirmed that the test rides were successful.
« We looked optimistic all the time, but before the tests, of course we had a little doubt, but we were convinced of it and we are very pleased at the moment, » Vernie said.
When plans were announced to rebuild the century -old Cortinian D’Apeco Ice track, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) referred to the idea skeptically and demanded that the Olympic Games organizers also provide a spare option for the race if the track was not restored.
Luge athletes are scheduled for the International Training Week on the new track in late October and early November, but in the last week of November.
IBSF, International Luge Sports Federation (FIL) and SOC officials will determine whether the track will go homologue and will be recognized as a valid competition.
There are 16 bends on the 1749 meters long track and can reach about 145 kilometers per hour.
Milan and Cortinas D’Ampeco Winter Olympics in 2026 will take place from 6 to 22 February
