The first first name for Swedish girls was Olivia, who was named 30 children. In Swedish -speaking boys, Edvin held the number one place, named 33 children.

Sofia and Muhammad were the most popular first first names in other children. Both names were given the first first name to 48 children. In this context, other language refers to a child whose mother tongue is something other than Finnish or Swedish.

Specialist Tommi Heinonen DVV tells us that there have been no major changes on the list of the most popular names last year. For example, Olivia was also the most popular name for girls in 2021 and 2022.

In general, the names that are considered traditional are still popular.

« There are many traditional names that are most likely to appear in the parents of the parents, for example in the name of grandparents, » Heinonen says in the release.

He says the most popular first names are often short and two -byte.

« By their pronunciation, they could be described as soft, » Heinonen adds.

In Finland, a child can be given 1-4 first names. The name must correspond to the established naming practice. The name must not cause harm or aggravation or otherwise be unsuitable for the first name.
