One of the most romantic and picturesque traditions at weddings is definitely cutting the cake. That sweet moment, in which partners together cut the first slice and symbolically offer it, represents love, collaboration and a common beginning. But when that act turns into an unpleasant and humiliating scene – the border goes over.

From the wedding to the protest
In a viral video that has collected more than 20 million views on the X platform, the groom literally pushed his newly married wife into a wedding cake during the ceremony.
Instead of a smile and a sweet snack, the cake ended up on her face and hair. As he laughed like a boy enthusiastic about his own scarf, the bride remained caught – visibly upset but restrained.
The reactions from social networks were not mild: ‘Why does this’ joke’ exist at all? The food is destroyed, and the person humiliates’, ‘Do not do this – cakes often contain wooden sticks for stabilization!’, ‘The biggest alarm is that he does not see how much he hurt’, ‘This is extremely immature’, until: ‘Request the annulment of marriage’.
While many wondered if it was a joke that went too far or a true indicator of character, the fact remains: the ceremony of cutting the cake is not the moment to humiliate the partner, but a gentle symbolism of mutual respect and support.
The tradition of cutting the cake goes back to ancient Rome, where the cake broke over the bride’s head as a symbol of fertility. Still, the head in the cake today means something completely different.
In the Victorian period, the bride would cut her cake on her own and share the guests of the slice, and over time, this act grew into a common symbol of partner support – a hand over hand, the first common step in marriage.
But when the cake is used to humiliate, some seem to forget what love really means.
