Of voyeurism suspected ex-city member released under certain conditions: Investigation into new facts is continuing (Nieuwpoort)

SD was released under certain conditions.

Nieuwpoort

The 45-year-old man from Nieuwpoort who was detained for two months on suspicion of voyeurism on a scouts camp in Beringen and possibly also at the town hall in Nieuwpoort, where he worked, was released by the council chamber in Veurne. The investigation into SD is going further. « He has been released under certain conditions, we do not go deeper into the case, » says his lawyer Filip De Reuse.

In the summer of 2023 and 2024, an initially unknown man with a hidden camera filmed in the showers of the scoutskamp of the SaSascouts 8th FOS ‘t Vloedgat in Beringen. When the facts were discovered last year by the management, the camp was abruptly demolished and a complaint was filed. It remained silent for months about who the suspect was.

Only months later did the 45-year-old SD come into sight, who was along as a cooking parent. He was not arrested at the time, but was interrogated as a suspect and the investigation was continued.

In February, new elements appeared against SD « The 45-year-old man from Nieuwpoort is in jail on suspicion of voyeurism, » the Veurne public prosecutor reported last month. « He was arrested last month by the investigating judge in Veurne. In the summer of 2023 and 2024, the man would have made images with hidden cameras during a Scoutskamp, where he was present as a cooking parent. The public prosecutor’s office identified ten adult victims in this file. »

Filming in town hall

According to the public prosecutor, the man would have secretly filmed in his working environment. SD worked as a official on the public domain and the Mobility cell.

Because there is filming in his working environment, it is also investigated whether there are images made in the town hall. That research is still ongoing.

In any case, SD no longer had access to the town hall, he was fired by the city of Nieuwpoort after being known to be the person who filmed on the Scoutskamp. The man came again on Tuesday before the council chamber in Veurne. « The council chamber has decided to release him under conditions, » says his new lawyer Filip De Reuse. « What those are or about the content of the file, I will not go deeper into. » The investigation continues.
