Nutrition expert warns of 4 long -term risks of weight loss injections
Famous people like Elon Musk and Oprah Winfrey have admitted to using them, which has only increased their popularity worldwide. However, there is growing concern among those who raise injections privately after being denied access to them via the public health system.
The drugs are approved for people with a BMI of at least 30, but according to reports, only five percent of those who get them prescribed by their GP.
This has led to many seeking private prescriptions, which raises concerns about whether people are taking them without proper assessment, writes the British media Mirror.
Recognized nutritionist Melissa Snover now warns of the potential long -term side effects of the injections that many overlook and can put hundreds of thousands of people in danger.
Melissa, founder of the international nutrition brand Nourished and a member of the Department of Business and Trades Female Founders Initiative, has explained that many are vulnerable to serious side effects that have received quite a bit of attention.
Serious reactions to the medicines – including vomiting, diarrhea, seizures and even pancreatitis – have led to over 400 people in the UK being admitted to the emergency room since 2019, including 118 cases alone in October and November last year, according to figures from Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), reports Mailonline.
But the nutritionist thinks this is just the tip of the iceberg. She especially highlights four side effects that people may not know about:
1. Muscle loss:
« People lose weight too quickly and it can lead to muscle loss, which can result in weakness and long-term health problems such as cardiovascular disease, breathing problems, metabolic problems, joint pain and arthritis, » Melissa says.
« Muscle mass losing during the use of weight loss medicine is likely to be replaced by fat when you start eating more again. »
2. Long -term digestive problems:
« GLP-1 drugs lowers digestion, which can affect the health of the intestine and lead to persistent nausea, malnutrition, stomach blockages, fluctuating blood sugar levels and a generally reduced quality of life, » the expert said.
3. Nutrition deficiency:
« Eating less means fewer essential vitamins and minerals, which can affect bone health, the condition of the skin, the immune system and the energy level, » it also says.
4. Relax or wrinkled skin:
« Quick weight loss without proper nutrition can cause the skin to lose elasticity, giving an older and less healthy look. Slimming hoping to improve their appearance can eventually see it worsening, » warns Melissa.
