Nursing home instead of Icelandair’s headquarters
Construction began with a new 87 space of nursing homes at Nauthólsveg in Reykjavik today. Inga Zealand, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, applied a sledgehammer on a wall that needed to be departed.
The nursing home will be at Nauthólsveg 50 where there were previously Icelandair offices. The housing improvements will be undertaken and therefore transformed to perform a new role, as stated in a website announcement The Cabinet.
« It was very timely to start for the real development of nursing homes in Iceland and now the work has begun. Older people’s issues are my heart and have been for a long time and now the management is taken into account. I am extremely proud today, » said Inga Sæland.
Inga Sæland, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, and Guðni Aðalsteinsson, CEO of Reita Real Estate Company, began the construction today.

6,500 square meters of nursing home
The nursing home will be over 6,500 square meters in size and all rooms detached with bathrooms. The property is owned by Reita, but the state rents the house for 20 years. Arkís architects take care of the design of the house.
On March 19, states and municipalities signed an agreement on the development of nursing homes. The first shovel tongue for a new nursing home in Asi in Hveragerði was taken on May 2.
« In April, it was announced that 120 nursing facilities are planned to be used this year and obtain 600 new nursing facilities in the years 2026-2028, » says the announcement on the Cabinet website.
