« Now we write the next chapter and expand the Independence Party »
Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir, MP and former Minister of the Independence Party, began his candidacy for the chairman of the party's national meeting today by asking the meeting guests to rise from their seats and pat it bravely for Bjarni Benediktsson, the former chairman and former minister.
She then said that in the Independence Party there was room for a variety of perspectives that fall into the common channel of the basic values of the party.
It was precisely the red thread in Gudrun's speech – collaboration and association. She said a national meeting would be the first steps in the restoration of the Independence Party leadership.
Yours from the leftist
Guðrún struck light strings when she prayed for good greetings from Jón Bjarnason, former Left Green Minister, and told a brief story that she recently called Jón Bjarnason to discuss life and politics, but found out when she was far into the call that she had called her call.
Gudrun was called the national assembly to attend every day for work and calm down all years to expand the party.
She said party members will overcome the opposition and begin the next Independence Party's growing season.
Cultivated the party
In her speech, Guðrún came to what she has been openly discussing in the election campaign, which is the death of her father and when she unexpectedly took over the position of CEO in the family business.
The content, however, was the part of her mother, which Gudrun said had told the siblings that they should continue to operate the company in memory of their dad. Then she said that as soon as the siblings began to argue, the company would be sold.
Gudrun described how her mother cultivated her entire community, including by meeting in person in the home of all the employees of the company who had children, with knitted hoses.
Gudrun said she would cultivate the party as her mom did, but that she could not promise home -made wool socks on all unborn children and grandchildren of the national meeting, she wanted to be happy.
Three changes
Gudrun suggested three changes.
First, she said she wanted to bring power to party members. It needs to strengthen the party companies and to bring projects and funds into the constituencies, where the grassroots of the party refer the way in its local area.
Secondly, Guðrún said he wanted to help the party's leadership being elected more openly. She said she wanted to give all party members who truly work in and support the party with the opportunity to choose their leadership. She said she believed that this change will strengthen the party and unite.
Third, she wants to make Valhöll a greenhouse of new and bold ideas. She said it would have to send a clear message that would have to come from the leadership of lifting bold ideas and putting on new ones. Ideas that ensure that Iceland remains the best place in the world to live and work in.
Gudrun said no matter where people are born and no matter where it comes from every single person to have the opportunity to create a future.
The story written by those who dare
She told the story not written by those who give up, but those who dare and seek. She said she wanted to rebuild the Independence Party and lead Iceland into a new class with a class.
She described both her work as chairman of the Confederation of Industries and when she was at the level of the Confederation of Icelandic Employers, a new labor leadership in the country met. There she said she had experienced hardness and vocabulary that she had not seen before.
There were no people who regarded themselves as employees and their counterparts as employers and that it was possible to negotiate in brotherhood, but it looked at the easy and the eagle to fight on fatal springs.
Gudrun told his vision that Icelanders were all in the same team.
Then she said no shelter for Iceland to be found in the European Union. Said it is important that we strengthen the ties with our friends and that it has never been more important that we safeguard our interests.
« Because if not to them? And if not now then when? «
Gudrun said the Independence Party is at a turning point, but it was at a turning point like this that really tries on every person's strength.
« It may well be that we have lost battles and it may well be that we have been under elections but we will never give up.
Because if not to them? And if not now then when? If not the Independence Party, who is going to stand with the freedom of the individual, the value creation and the future of Iceland? » she asked.
She said the nation is waiting for a strong, proud and concerted Independence Party that fights for freedom because it is known that freedom requires defense, the initiative requires courage and Iceland requires leaders who can and dare.
« I live the concept of freedom. I have the courage. I understand the responsibility and I know what it takes.
That is why I am the right person to lead the party and that is why I invite myself to the chairman of the Independence Party. «
At the end of the speech, Gudrun talked about courage, perseverance and resilience that colored the stories of independence. Not just individuals but the Independence Party at all.
Her final words were then that, before she got a standing applause:
« And now, dear friends, we are writing the next chapter. Walk united and strong from now on, standing off the storm and expanding the Independence Party. «
