Now they move toward Greenland
The report has been prepared by China expert Camilla Tenna Nørup Sørensen and analyst Adam Buschard, and it builds on assessments from the Defense Intelligence Service.
Here it appears that China has a long -term goal of being able to operate militarily in the Arctic – within the next 10 years.
It writes Berlingske according to BT.
It’s not just speculation. According to the experts, there is already evidence that China is preparing to mark itself militarily in the region, including through cooperation with Russia and potential naval inspections in the Arctic waters.
A piece in the superpower game
At the same time, a clear interest from China is seen in Greenland’s resources and strategic location. Under the ice sheet hides large natural resources, and China wants access to these via a new trade route – the so -called « Northern Silk Road ».
But it doesn’t stop here. China has lost confidence in the Arctic Council because the country as a non-arctic state has no real influence here.
Instead, you are looking for new diplomatic channels-preferably with other superpowers such as Russia and the so-called BRICS countries.
If these countries gain a foothold in the Arctic diplomacy, it will be difficult to roll back development, warns Camilla Tenna Nørup Sørensen.
While Denmark has not yet reacted clearly to China’s ambitions, the United States is doing the opposite. For Americans, China is the primary strategic opponent, and Greenland has suddenly become an important piece in this global chess game.
