Now the case has taken a shocking turn
One of the most serious charges in Danish criminal law was finally dealt with on Thursday in the Eastern Lands Court, where a 54-year-old man was acquitted in a case of sexual assault against a girl between ten and twelve years.
The case has been underway for a long time and was first sentenced in October 2023 at the Court in Nykøbing Falster, where the man was sentenced to seven years in prison.

At that time he was found guilty of, among other things, rape, rape of other sexual relations other than intercourse and gross violation.
The man pleaded not guilty throughout the course of the case and immediately appealed the verdict with a claim of acquittal.
The appeal has now found its end, and the decision in the Eastern District Court ended with dismissal. According to the man’s lawyer, Christina Schønsted, the outcome is due to the fact that four of the nine mentions in court did not find that the evidence was strong enough to remove any reasonable doubt.
In case of court cases in the national court, a conviction requires that at least six mentions and two of the three legal judges vote for guilt.
That was not the case here. Therefore, the 54-year-old man was acquitted of all charges.
With its decision, the court has set a sentence in a case that has been marked by conflicting explanations and complex evidence. With the acquittal in the national court, the verdict is final.
