Now she shares what should have caused the alarm bells to ring
She and her husband Pete are among the increasing number of victims that have been hit by financial scams. It is a global phenomenon that has hit thousands – and of course it is also something that applies here in Denmark.
For Mandeville-Marinaro, it was of course a big battle to see that the whole family’s savings disappeared from the account in a split second.
« I know people will say, ‘How can you be so stupid? It’s clear that it’s scam’. But sometimes you just don’t realize it at the moment, » she said crying in her video according to the New York Post.
She explained that Pete had received a call from an unknown number that pretended to be from their bank.
« They said someone had hacked our account and that we should act quickly, » Mandeville-Marinaro said.
Pete then sent a message to her and asked for her card information.
« I just sent them without thinking about it, » she admitted, but added that it actually felt strange that the bank would ask for card information.
« Then he calls and says I have to approve a payment, and I think, ‘It sounds strange,' » she continued. But Pete reassured her and said the bank had asked them to move the money to a new account to secure them.
« The warning lights started blinking in my head, » Mandeville-Marinaro remembered.
