Now it hits the United States: Foreign tourists opt out of the country
According to the US newspaper Washington Postwith reference to figures from the International Trade Administration, almost 12 percent fewer foreigners traveled to the United States in March compared to the same month in 2024.
In February, a two percent decline was also noted – the first significant fall since the coronaandemic.

Especially European and Central American travelers opted out of the United States.
Tourists from Western Europe fell by 17 percent, while Central America accounted for a full 24 percent fall. For China, the fall was 11 percent, and among German travelers, a decline of 28 percent was recorded. Australia also reported seven percent fewer travelers – the biggest fall since March 2021.
The declining interest is attributed, among other things, to concerns about entry conditions.
Several foreign travelers must have been denied access to the United States, despite valid documents.
According to the DPA news agency, some fear that tighter security policy and political rhetoric keep people from traveling to the country.
Although the United States officially emphasizes that there is nothing to fear during ordinary visits, Rubio mentioned that people with plans to support militant movements or create unrest should stay away.
