About 300 million birds move from Sweden over the winter.
Many bird species – such as nightingale and osprey move to Africa. Others move a little shorter and are content with southern Europe. For example, they include Trana and Rödhake. The short moves are also usually the ones that arrive at the earliest in the spring. Ring pigeon often arrives already in March.

You distinguish between stops and migratory birds: stop birds are birds that live in the same place all year. But the limit is sometimes unclear. For example, some birds move a short distance, including depending on food assets, and are called ironing birds.
Over 80 percent of the birds found in Sweden in the summer leave us in the winter.

At Ottenby Bird Station, bird research has been conducted since the 1940s. And just Öland’s southern cape is one of the country’s best bird rooms and attracts lots of bird watchers year after year.

Tranan is a long -legged and long -necked migratory bird that breeds in large parts of Sweden except in the mountains. Every year, thousands of cranes gather on Lake Hornborgas, where it carries out its spectacular mating dance. After the dance, the cranes move further north to their breeding areas.

The chick is flush when the springs are sufficiently developed and it is strong enough. Some species are flying almost immediately when hatched while others have to be taken care of by the parents for a long time.

The term « A cool makes no summer » goes back to the ancient Greeks. The origin of the saying is a story about a young man who wasted his fortune until he only had winter clothes left. One day he saw a cool and then thought that the summer was on the way, after which he sold his clothes. But the next day it got cold again and the young man wished he had never seen the swallow.

The domain is most visible in the winter when it is attracted to buildings and bird feeders. However, it happens that it moves in the winter and then to a little more southern cores like Denmark and Central Europe.
The bird weighs at most just under 30 grams and has a wingspan of between 22 and 29 centimeters.

Lavskrika (Perisoreus Infaustus) is a stunning bird and sometimes seeks out to humans. It is grayish brown with rusty elements. Lavskikika has played an important role in folklore and has been considered unlucky in some places. Perisoreus Infaustus means « accidental talk mill ».

According to the Natural History Museum, it is primarily the availability of food that has led to some species becoming migratory birds. By moving, the birds can take advantage of the best possible food search area. During the summer there is plenty of food for them in Sweden, and they can breed more kids here than if they stayed and nestled in their winter area.

The evening falcon, even red -legged falcon or red -footed falcon, lives above all by insects. The biggest threat to the bird is the destruction of its habitats, it prefers meadow and steppe land. It is a migratory bird you can sometimes see in Sweden, although its main residence is Eastern Europe and parts of Asia.
There is a Swedish song from 1981 called « Evening Falcon ». Pugh Rogefeldt wrote the music and Ulf Lundell the text. Rogefeldt sang it and it is on the album « Hot ».

Many migratory birds fly in V-formation during the move, which is aerodynamically effective compared to flying alone. The birds take turns taking the sealing position in the formation.

The silver tern (Sterna Paradisaea) is known for having far between their breeding site and its winter quarters, which are in Antarctica. The silver terns usually leave Sweden in July or early August to get to get all the way.
