The Rivierenland police took a dangerous rider on an electric scooter from traffic on Thursday after a crazy chase. The driver turned out to be under the influence, not insured and already has a lifelong driving ban in his pocket. At a certain moment, 25-year-old man from Temse rode the N16 at the N16 against the direction of travel.
In recent days, complaints regularly came in at the Rivierenland police zone of concerned cyclists about a man on a scooter who drove very fast in the morning along the cycle path between Temse and Willebroek, which is located on the N16. « On Thursday morning, a motorcyclist from our traffic service notes the Step, » explains Dirk van de Sande, spokesperson for the Rivierenland police zone. « Again he drives at high speed from Temse to Willebroek. Our traffic agent uses the chase with a view to control the driver and his scooter. »

The start of a crazy chase. The man on the step immediately turned around and drove back to Temse via the cycle path – against the direction of travel. In the meantime, other police traffic teams are using the pursuit.
90 kilometers per hour
« After a while, the driver decides to continue his flight on the N16, against the direction of travel, moreover between the two lanes, at a speed of no less than 90 kilometers per hour, » said Van de Sande. « Multiple motorists can only just avoid a collision with the ghost driver. Then he goes with his scooter through the central reservation to continue his flight, now in the direction of travel of the traffic. »

During the chase, the driver bumped into the motorcycle twice against the police inspectors, and caused damage to the vehicles. The chase ended in a fall. « If the driver wants to drive to the cycle path via the roadside, he will fall. He tries to get off on foot, but is arrested by the inspectors. »
Positive drug test and driving ban
The 25-year-old driver from Temse took a positive drug test for Cannabis on Thursday. The scooter was seized on behalf of the public prosecutor’s office and the driver is forced for the violations that were determined during his flight.
« The young man, who, by the way, has a lifelong driving ban, already committed some traffic violations in the past. Twice he turned out not to have insured his vehicle, four times he was verbalized for drugs in traffic, and twice he was tapped for steering during decay. » The person concerned will be summoned later for the police judge.
