« Nothing »: sparkling Darkside – Liberation

From Psychic, Their first album in 2013, attempts to name the music of Darkside were numerous. Randomly platforms and playlists, we come across more or less eccentric terms, but always turning around two poles, psychedelism and its derivative progressive rock, in reference to this trend of the 70s to go towards an ever more baroque and sometimes bulky pop, which we can imagine that they claim to be if they consider that their name is a reference to Darkside of the Moon by Pink Floyd. There are many other ingredients in their shaker: ambient, electronica, latino, deep house or even this time a disco zest (SNC) or country (Are You Tired?)… But the cocktail is still as mysterious. Whatever the drink as long as we have drunkenness and on this side Nothing It's not nothing.

Born of the meeting between the American musician of Chilean origin Nicolas Jaar, who despite his appetite for French culture, is not the son of Jean-Michel Jarre, but that ofAlfredo Jaar, a leading Chilean photographer and architectand New York guitarist Dave Harrington, accompanied for this disc of drummer Tlacael Esparza, Darkside is first of all a parallel project which has taken on importance over time, even if both are pursuing their solo adventures. Less dark, better constructed, as abyssal as it is hypnotic, this third masterful album is even crazier, unclassifiable and successful than the previous ones. Admittedly, you have to take the trouble to open the door and get carried away by this maelstrom of ideas and sounds. But if Nothing is complex and confusing at first, it is in no way a complicated disc and especially not as we will necessarily tend to say « experimental ». Already because it remains completely musical and this time is not devoid of a welcome touch of humor. If he goes in all directions at the same time, Nothing There remains a pop disc with catchy melodies and whose songs can hum in the shower. In short, don't be afraid, let yourself be carried away, everything will be fine. You enter a very large record.

Like that of Darkside, Zappa's music is a world apart. We penetrate with fear and we come out conquered.

The third album of the German producer shares with Darkside the dark and sticky atmosphere as well as the ambition to invention of a hypnotizing universe.

We do not come out unscathed from the traumatic listening of the second album of the pioneers of the Witch House, piling up with heavy rock lyricism, demonic trap and Electronica from beyond the grave.
