Not only the 1000-krone banknote that becomes invalid

If you have a pile of cash lying in a drawer that you forgot since VHS tapes and landline phones were hot, then now is the time to take a look.

Because even though it is the 1000-krone banknote that steals the headlines these days, it is actually far from the only note that is facing its retirement.

Danmarks Nationalbank makes spring interest and old banknotes are not allowed to survive the calendar magazine for the month of May. But it is not only antique notes from Grandpa’s cigar box that have to die. Banknotes from before 2009 – ie those from older banknotes – also become invalid.

So the question is: Do you have banknotes that soon become as valuable as a breadcrumbs in a coin vending machine?

Last call: Use them, put them in the bank or swap them later

Until May 31, you can still use the discontinued notes as payment in stores – provided you find someone still taking cash at all.

Alternatively, you can slip past the bank and get them put in, but here you have to be aware that the banks not just receive everything with open arms. Namely, money laundering rules apply and you must be ready with documentation if you come with your pockets full.
