(Not) neutral Trump Ukrainian Truth

Half a year ago, the United States was considered a key ally of Ukraine in confrontation with the Russian aggressor. But America Trump chooses a new status: it positions itself as a neutral mediator between Kiev and Moscow. As an impartial arbitrator and arbitral judge capable of completing another’s war. As an improved version of the Erdogan Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

To be accurate, such a role is not new for Washington. In the past, the United States has repeatedly had to be a mediator who contributed to the settlement of military conflicts in different parts of the world.

In the imagination of many Ukrainians, the American train came from the Kiev Support Station to the Moscow Playing Station without stopping at the Neutrality Station. And in Donald Trump, hundreds of thousands of our citizens saw not the mediator: but rather a accomplice of Putin and the actual accomplice of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Of course, a change in American status-from a key partner in the fight against the Kremlin to the mediator in negotiations with the Kremlin-in any case it would be regarded by many Ukrainians as betrayal. The rigid pressing of Kiev was not practiced because it was necessary: ​​but because it was easier. Americans did not keep it from the hard pressing of Moscow because it was impossible: but because it was difficult. Attempts to motivate the Russian Federation were made not because it was rational: but because it did not require considerable effort from the United States.

America Trump has tried to act as whip and gingerbread. But for three months the whip was almost always addressed to Kiev, and gingerbread – Moscow. And, of course, such a strategy was difficult to perceive as a neutral mediation – not as a flirting with the Russian regime.

The specific views and subjective inclinations of Donald Trump also prevented him from treating him as a neutral referee.

Ukraine – with the exception of Ukrainian subsoil – Trump is indifferent, and it immediately came into the eye. Even when the US President speaks of Ukrainian victims and suffering, there is no true empathy in his words. It is too obvious that Ukrainians for the current American leader are a creature from another planet. Improper insane who got into a big game without having strong cards in their hands.

Instead, the Russian ruler Trump really feels some empathy. The owner of the White House considers Putin a man of his circle. He is able to put himself in Putin’s place. He tries to understand Putin and get into the motifs of the Kremlin dictator. He is ready to look for explanations and justification of Putin’s actions. And he is not ashamed to voice all this aloud.

According to the public rhetoric of the American leader, Putin is not a tyrant and an aggressor with which the heart has been able to negotiate. Putin is a good guy who went out of the way and made a « mistake ». Moreover, there is practically no guilt of the Russian emperor in this: according to Trump, Barack Obama and Joe Biden are guilty.

And when the US president is especially evil on a Ukrainian colleague, Zelensky is also guilty of the corruption of Putin. And, of course, it is invariably emphasized that the Kremlin owner would remain a good guy and a reliable partner of the United States.

When the victim of aggression is opposed to the aggressor, the position over the fight itself may seem immoral: it is many of us who put the late Pope Francis. However, the 47th US President went on. Trying to stand over the fight, he began to practice in the most biased interpretations of this battle.

Of course, many wars in human history ended in heavy and painful compromises. But Trump-intermediary not only pushes Kiev to an unfair peace: he tries to pretend that there is no injustice.

Diplomacy has its own laws, and today the Ukrainian leadership is forced to deal with Trump. In Kiev, they try to get around with Washington – and achieve some success. But in the mass Ukrainian consciousness of Trump, the halo of the peacemaker is still prepared: but the image of a free or involuntary accomplice of aggression. Moreover, whether the American leader will be achieved at least a temporary cease ceasefire in Ukraine, or simply washing his hands, accusing both Moscow and Kiev.
