Hundreds of thousands flocked to the square in front of the Basilica « St. Peter » in Rome for the Pope Leo XIV inauguration ceremony. The event marks the official beginning of the pontiff of the Pope, which was elected on May 8 for the 267th leader of the Roman Catholic Church. The Leo XIV is the first pope in the history born in the United States.
Before the ceremony, the Pope first passed with a papal car on the streets to the square, congratulating the border of worshipers along the way.
Then Leo XIV prayed to the grave of St. Peter, which is located under the altar of the basilica.

During the enthronement, the newly elected Pope received two regalia – symbols of papal power. These are a gold ring, also called the « fisherman’s ring », which depicts the apostle Peter and the name of the new Roman bishop is written, as well as a lamb wool palium, symbolizing the role of the pope as a shepherd.

The ceremony was attended by politicians and spiritual leaders from all over the world, including US Vicit President Ji Di Vance, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The event was also attended by Peru President Dina Bolurate. In the country, the future Pope was a missionary and also has Peruvian citizenship. The Bulgarian delegation is led by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.
