Norwegian Nobel Institute: There are 338 Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize
A total of 338 people have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Institute said today without announcing their names.
This is a significant increase from the 286 nominees last year, but still does not exceed the 2016 record, when 376 people were nominated.
According to the Nobel Peace Prizes Statute, the identity of the nominees has been kept secret for 50 years.
But despite this, thousands of proposers, whether they are lawmakers, or ministers, or former laureates or university professors, can freely tell the media whom they have proposed.
For example, US Congressman Darrell Isa announced yesterday at X that he nominated Donald Trump and described his decision with the words: « No one else deserves it. » Isa's press service later said that the nomination was motivated by Trump's efforts in the Middle East.
In January, thousands of people signed a petition calling for Frenchwoman Giselle Penko to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She became a feminist icon after it became clear that her husband had organized for years to be raped by unknown men. The case was held last year that ended with convicts.
Members of the Norwegian Parliament have said they have been nominated by former UN Secretary -General Jens Stoltenberg and UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres, as well as Pope Francis, for their efforts to support peace.
