Nocturnal crash with three passengers, woman does not survive (Roeselare)
A major accident happened on the Rumbeke exit of the E403 in the night from Friday to Saturday. A car with three passengers left the road and ended up on the roadside. A female passenger ended up under the car and did not survive the accident.
Just after 4 a.m. the driver of a gray Opel wanted to take the rumbeke exit on the E403. On the exit, however, the man lost control of the steering wheel. He narrowly missed the crash barrier and entered the Berm at the service zone. The car ended up a few meters further in a deep canal.
The driver and a male passenger were only slightly injured and were able to leave the car on his own. A woman was less lucky. She was thrown out of the car and ended up under the vehicle. She did not survive the accident. The fire brigade was still on the spot to free the victims. « But unfortunately it soon became clear that this would only be a salvage operation, » said the officer on the spot.

The police extensively did the findings along the exit and decided that the circumstances of the accident were clear. No traffic expert was appointed. Why the driver exactly lost control of his steering wheel will have to be seen later.
During the hoisting works, the Rumbeke exit was closed for a long time, but given the night hour, this caused little nuisance. (Jof)
