After eight house searches and a destructive audit report, no one is prosecuted for the former financial constructions at the VRT. That concludes the Brussels public prosecutor after years of research into high invoices and controversial contracts. This is how the time reports on Saturday.

On Wednesday 22 June 2022, investigators of the Central Service for the Fighting of Corruption to Reyerslaan went for a house search at the VRT. In seven other places, Huis searches took place that day, in a judicial investigation into financial constructions at the public broadcaster. They were denounced in a report from Audit Flanders. At the end of 2020, the public prosecutor had opened a file based on that report.
Now the judicial investigation is ready. On Friday, the Brussels parquet with the criminal file went to the council chamber for a seat behind closed doors. No other party, not even the VRT itself, had been called for that session, because the investigating judge suspected anyone during the investigation and the VRT had not put itself a civil party in the case.
The Brussels public prosecutor confirms « that the Public Prosecution Service drew a final claim, decides that no criminal offenses have been committed and therefore no one should be prosecuted ». « The Brussels council chamber immediately ruled in the case and the public prosecutor’s office was followed, » is the only comment that the public prosecutor gives.
