No collective dismissal at Nike in Laakdal: alternative to 155 weekend workers (HAM)

There are no naked dismissal in the distribution center of the American sports giant Nike in Ham and Laakdal. 155 jobs from the weekend shift are shifted to Weekshifts. The trade union front told the Poort in Laakdal on Thursday morning.

The American sports brand Nike has announced 2 billion dollars in savings. There would be 1,700 jobs on the slope worldwide. The special works council in Laakdal on Thursday morning was therefore also awaited by the 5,000 employees who are working in the European distribution center in Laakdal and Ham.

But around half pastelf, the trade union delegation at the gate was already able to bring a reassuring message. Yes, there is a restructuring, but no dismissal round. « No naked dismissal has been announced, » says Marieke van Gils of the socialist trade union BBTK. « There will be a reorganization. About 155 of the 600 employees of the morning weekend shift will be given an offer to work in another shift in this company. The trade unions have negotiated a plan where there will be a job offer for everyone in this company. »

« In addition, a whole package of flanking measures has been agreed that we will first present to the people who are involved on Saturday morning. This reorganization is necessary because there has been less work in the weekend shift and that is of course an expensive shift. People work 24 hours in one weekend and are employed on a full -time wage. Although there are no dismissals of the work.”

« It is about people who are in the early weekend shift who will be able to choose the early, late or night post during the week, » adds Nathalie Engelen from ACV Puls. « The employees who work at the weekend also indicate that there is less work at the moment. »

Premium

According to our information, there will also be departure premiums for employees who do not want to get into a new timetable. That premium could be up to 16,000 euros for employees with a long track record. « It could be that there are premiums in addition to other flanking measures, but we will first tell the staff what it’s all about on Saturday morning, » says Engelen. « Nike wishes in the first place that those 155 employees also stay with the company. By the way, there will be 50 extra temporary employees this year. »

Nike is currently putting the finishing touches on a state -of -the -art distribution center of 1.3 million square meters in Magna Park Corby in the British Northhamptonesshire. That will also have its impact on the distribution center of Ham and Laakdal, which is currently also responsible for deliveries to the United Kingdom. « Explanation has already been given about this in the works council, » says Engelen, « but if part of the work were to shift there, Nike has provided solutions so that there is still enough work left for the 5,000 employees here. »

Ipek Aksoy from Heusden-Zolder is at the gate of Nike to follow the news. She works in the weekend shift at Nike. « I work 2 days in the weekend of six o’clock in the morning to six in the evening, » she says. “My husband also works full -time. During the week I can take care of my family like this. I only have one child. If this is already a disaster for me, then you can imagine what this is for people with several children. There are also people who have been in that weekend shift all their lives. Some people do a flexijob for the family budget.
