Jordy D. organized a birthday party in the Nieuwenhove district in Oostkamp on September 26, 2021. It had to be a nice evening for his eleven friends. Milan Meert was not welcome, but decided that evening to go to the party with two friends to settle an open drug debt. D. would have stolen 150 grams of cannabis and Milan was not happy with that. The teenager promised his mum that he would be at home at 10 pm, but he would never return home. It came to a strong discussion at the party and the situation soon escalated.

The victim brought up a surge weapon, after which Jordy D. took a bayonet and stabbed Milan. He died of his injuries. The majority of those present made it run. The police picked up eleven young people that night and the next morning, including perpetrator Jordy D .. he was hiding with a friend. Since then, D. has stayed in prison on suspicion of murder.

At the end of January 2022, two more possible co -perpetrators were arrested. One brought the bayonet to the party and then took it home again. The other would have kicked Milan’s head when it had already collapsed.

The Public Prosecution Service not only wanted Jordy D., but also Axel B. and Aaron B. on suspicion of murder for the West-Flemish court of Assisen, but also the six other defendants in the case. After all, the public prosecutor wanted to bring the case with all nine accused as a whole before the Court of Assisen, even though some powers such as guilty omission and prohibited weapons fall into a correctional court.

Just like the Council Chamber in Bruges, the Chamber of Investigation now ruled that the case should be dealt with in its entirety and all nine suspects should go to assize, despite protest from a number of lawyers who preferred to see things split off.

Three perpetrators were referred to murder- Jordy D., Aaron B. and Axel- of which two also for breaches of arms law. The others were referred to guilty omission and/or infringements of the Weapon Act.

Probably the process can take place in Bruges in the spring of 2026.
