Nine killed in four boat wreck in China
At least nine people were died and one continued missing following the wreck of four vessels in a river near the city of Qianxi, Chinese province of Guizhou (southwest).
According to the Xinhua news agency, the accident occurred around 4:40 pm (09h40 in Lisbon) on Sunday, when gusts of unexpected winds turned four boats into the river, launching 84 people to water.
China’s weather administration had warned of torrential rainfall in the south and southwest of the country, including in the province of Guizhou.
According to the local rescue center, nine people have died and 70 are receiving medical care, being out of danger. Four escaped unharmed.
With regard to the missing, the provincial authorities highlighted about 500 operational, including police, firefighters and medical staff, to coordinate rescue and rescue work, the Chinese official agency reported.
