New pressures for Ukraine’s rare lands
US president Donald Trump was declared annoyed Sunday by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, but also by the Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski Talking to journalists on Air Force One, Trump explained his frustration.
« I was disappointed in a way, » Trump said, especially in relation to « some of the things (Vladimir Putin) said in the last two days about Zelenski, because he does not consider Zelenski credible. » « He should make an agreement with him, whether he likes it or not. » « So I was not satisfied, but I think it will be a good one and I certainly do not want to impose secondary rates. »
Donald Trump then directed his criticisms to the Ukrainian president. « I see that he is trying to withdraw from the agreement on rare lands. And if he does, he will have problems. Big problems, » he said. « We have an agreement on rare lands and now he says, well, you know, I want to renegotiate the agreement. He wants to become a member of NATO. Well, he will never be a member of NATO. He understands this. So he wants to renegotiate the agreement. »
Volodimir Zelenski said On Friday that the new US Agreement project for the exploitation of Ukrainian mineral resources is ‘completely different’ from the previous version and requires an in -depth assessment from Kiev jurists before a document signing.
Speaking in front of the press in Kiev, Zelenski also emphasized that he would not accept such an agreement if he threatened Ukraine’s accession to the EU. The project received from Washington comprises « many things that have not been discussed previously and some have been rejected, » noted the Ukrainian president.
According to the draft agreement consulted by Reuters, the agreement would assume that Ukraine would send Washington all the profit made by a fund that controls Ukrainian resources until Kiev will return all the American aid during the war with Russia, plus an interest.
Although the details of the new version of the agreement were not publicly presented, the parliamentarians and the Ukraine press described it as ‘unacceptable’. According to the newspaper Ukrainska Pravda, ‘Donald Trump’s team gave up all the compromise solutions agreed a month ago’, and the new document ‘passes almost all the red lines’ of Ukraine,’ deprived of some of his sovereignty ‘and forcing it to repay all the American received’.
Moreover, the new project of Agreement proposed by Washington does not include any security guarantee for Ukraine, as well as the previous version.
