New Organ donorlov came into force on June 1: You are now registered
Great effect after first letter
This is not the first time that a letter is tapping into e-box calling for a decision. A similar campaign last December got the Danes to the keys in great style. In just two months, more than 155,000 chose to register their attitude – well above the approximately 2,500 that usually do so during the same period.
Currently, approximately 1.58 million Danes have registered their choices in the Organ Sonor Register. Of these, almost 1.4 million have given full or partial permission, while just over 142,000 have opted out of organ donation. About 37,000 have chosen to mark that they are still in doubt.
A choice with consequences
The authorities emphasize that the change in the law does not change the right of the Danes to decide for themselves their bodies. But it makes a difference for both the health care system and the relatives when citizens take a stand – before it becomes necessary.
« I have full respect for the fact that we have different attitudes to being an organ donor, and of course it is up to the individual whether you want to be an organ donor, » says Sophie Løhde, adding that it can make a big difference for those who wait – and for the relatives who can one day make the decision.
Registration of its attitude towards organ donation takes place via health.dk and can be changed at any time. For those who have already made a choice and registered it, the law change does not change anything. But for everyone else, the clock is starting to tick today.
