The underground crossing, better known to Vilnius residents as panoramas, is now gray. Although until recently it was painted with various graffiti and drawings.

« It was really nicer before, now it’s a little gloom, I would say, » said the resident.

« Maybe it’s alive, of course, when those colors are something, » another Vilnius resident considered.

« Not a gloom, but a little tastier, which was the mess, » the passerby said.

The graffiti of professionals and amateurs have been decorated with the wall since 2013, and soon the colors will come again.

The crossing is dressed in a well -known trolley bus. The city government promises similar drawings in other places.

The graffiti will appear on the supports of the Iron Wolf Bridge.

« On both sides of the supports, different works of art will be exhibited. We also have Drujos str. Patilte, where there will also be two artists’ ideas – on one side and the other, » said Rūta Matonienė, head of the city aesthetics department.

Seven artists’ ideas were selected through competition. The drawings are for the year of the Green Capital of Vilnius, so the motives will be related to nature.

« There are certain structures – growing, alive. We have integrated greenery in two works of art, in the other – mycelium. We will have original projects, » said R. Matonienė.

However, the graffiti is not cheap – the government will allocate nearly € 82,000 to the implementation of the work. And this angered the municipal opposition.

« Seeing that budget of € 1.5 billion did not even waste time in such simple but important details of how to save the city budget, » said Vydūnas Sadauskas, the leader of the Vilnius Municipal Council’s opposition.

The politician wonders. According to him, the municipality is looking for money to renew public transport and raises prices for residents, but the graffiti finds funds.

« Money double is located, which could be used for public transport and other important things in the city, » said V. Sadauskas.

The trolleybus in the underground crossing will cost residents $ 15,000. euros. Graphics under the Iron Wolf Bridge – more than 12 thousand. euros.

LNK stop shot.

The drawings were primarily happy to find out about the money, and the residents lowered their hands.

« It seems to me that there is more where to spend money at the moment. For example, national defense, » the resident said.

« Not time, of course. Money is missing and so, » the passerby said.

LNK stop shot.

« Public transport does not have to be as expensive as it is now preparing for us to make such a surprise. And there are many other problems with us, » said Vilnius.

The municipality also allocated a significant amount of over € 1.5 million for illegal graffiti cleaning work.

« It is better to invest in additional cameras that would trace that graphite person rather than just solve other problems, » says V. Sadauskas.

But the mayor Valdas Benkunskas says that the problems need to be solved and the cleaning work has proved its worth. Fewer offenders, and the fines are high – up to € 600.

« If we allow us to behave completely freely in this area and have no regulation, we do not have the city’s intervention, then we can have much bigger problems, and it will take more money to deal with it, » explained Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.

The new graffiti planned by the municipality will call attention to the problems of climate change. However, here the opposition raises questions.

« The climate does not really solve, on the contrary, they are increased, » says V. Sadauskas.

The paint used for graffiti is a lot of microplastics. According to scientists, the particles that enter the environment damage the ecosystem and eventually the man himself.

« When entering nature, they can get into organisms, cause various disorders. Studies show that when the human body enters the human body, it can contribute to part of the cancer and other disorders, » said Domantas Racevičius, head of the Ring Economy.

German scientists conducted a study by taking samples of the graffiti near the graffiti. One kilogram of soil captured hundreds of thousands of microplastic particles.

Environmentalist D. Racevičius says that the walls of Vilnius could be decorated differently.

« The painting on the wall can be created not only with spray paint, but also with a wide variety of. The municipality can certainly indicate as a condition that the paint should be microplastic, » he said.

Such conditions did not specify the municipality and the competition has already taken place.

“Each type of art has its own CO2 trace – whether we take ceramics, painting or any other type of art. We cannot completely abandon the technologies that are used, ”said R. Matonienė.

However, they will talk to the artists. He hopes to choose the least variant of the pollution.
