New drone detection equipment / day have been installed at Riga Airport

The airport was informed that the equipment purchased in last year's tender was delivered, installed and operated, complementing the former unmanned aircraft detection system at Riga Airport.

At the same time, the airport stated that the next procurement specification has been developed, and the airport is working with several system manufacturers and testing and examining various options and kits that could effectively complement the detection and tracking capacity of unmanned aircraft at the airport. The airport plans to start procurement in the next month.

Information in the Electronic Procurement System (EIS) shows that three offers were received in the airport procurement for unmanned aircraft radar lease – SIA « Vefabrika », which offered the contract price of 59,171 euros excluding value added tax (VAT), Ltd. « Baltic Unmanned Solutions » The contract price offered was € 44,645 excluding VAT.

Previously, representatives of the Ministry of Transport (MoU) told LETA earlier that the complex drone detection system at Riga Airport could cost around EUR five million.

The MoU noted that Riga Airport will procure the purchase of drone detection equipment, which will improve the ability to identify and follow unauthorized drone flights in real -time and respond to illegal activities.

The subject of the procurement is classified information, so the procurement details will not be publicly explained, the ministry added.

The approximate cost of the detection system is five million euros, so the investment is being sought in the department, but the state budget funding will also be asked, the ministry noted.

It has already been reported that on January 13 this year, short -term restrictions were set three times in Latvian airspace. Everyone was related to found unmanned aircraft flights to Riga Airport.

Several drones were used on flights. According to the Civil Aviation Agency (CAA), the defense systems did not identify the relevant drones because they had a deactivated function that allows them to be perceived.

Information available to the CAA indicates that unmanned aircraft flights may have been deliberately made with the aim of endangering the safety of civil aviation aircraft flights or deliberate disruption of the Latvian civil aviation industry.

The CAA approached the State Police and the State Security Service in connection with the incident, asking the civil aviation sector to investigate the threat to the criminal proceedings.

The State Police have announced that it will investigate criminal proceedings for illegally piled drones in the territory of Riga Airport.
