New clubs are opening in Russia
A high interest in sports and the growth of consumer confidence contribute to the development of a fitness industry. The number of specialized companies registered in Russia over the year increased by 12.3%, and the eg of the release of new objects accelerated. The main driver of the market is the regions with high solvent demand, where low -format studios are opened. With the exhaustion of the possibility of increasing prices, the growth of a fitness market may slow down.
The number of registered legal entities of fitness clubs in Russia as of May 1, 2025 reached 6.7 thousand, increasing by 12.3% a year by the year, calculated in the “Contour. Focus”. Market growth rates are accelerated. In January – this year, according to analysts, the number of companies increased by 3.88%, the past – by 3.2%. According to FitnessData, according to the results of April, 14.3 thousand fitness objects worked in Russia, of which 3.4 thousand clubs. From January to April 2025, according to the company, 52 new full -format facilities entered the market, which is 19 more clubs than in the same period last year. Elena Silina, President of the National Fitness Complex, says that 105 new fitness objects have opened in Russia in Russia.
The analyst of the project « Contour.fokus » Veronika Skorokodova connects the general rise in the fitness industry with the increasing interest of consumers in sports. Elena Silina believes that fitness classes are increasingly considering as an element of everyday life and health care.
According to the estimates of the Platform of the OFD (fiscal data operator), in January-April the number of purchases of services of sports centers and fitness rooms increased by 6% of the year by the year. The average check increased by 11%, to 8 thousand rubles.
These factors contribute to the growth of market turnover. According to FitnessData, in the first quarter, the indicator reached 79.7 billion rubles, increasing by 25.5% of the year by the year. The head of FitnessData Maxim Borovikov believes that an increase in the average check provided half of this increase. The expert draws attention to the slowdown in the rate of increase in revenue: if in January the increase for the year was estimated at 28%, then in March – at 23%. The trend may be preserved taking into account inflation, the high cost of lending and reducing the amount of free funds from citizens: “Raising prices is an exhaustible resource,” says Mr. Borovikov.
Veronika Skorokhodova notes that the main vector of development remains the opening of small objects and studios, which do not require significant investment. The acting director of franchise XFIT Sergey Malkov explains that compact formats occupying from 120 square meters. m, easily integrated into existing residential buildings, do not require constant attention of managers and quickly pay for investments.
At the same time, the main growth of the fitness industry is provided by the largest regional markets in the country.
Among them, Madame Silina distinguishes Moscow, Moscow Region, St. Petersburg, the Leningrad Region, Kazan and Yekaterinburg. According to Contour. Focus, in Moscow the number of registered fitness organizations over the year increased by 12.9%, in the Moscow Region-by 16.1%, in St. Petersburg-by 16.1%. The growth was more pronounced in the Sverdlovsk region, reaching 19.5%. SPIRIT.FITNESS BUSTICIAL Director Dmitry Yeshko says that for its network, Moscow provides more than 50% of the turnover increase due to the high density of objects and solvent demand. Maxim Borovikov notes that the pace of discoveries of fitness clubs in cities with a population of up to 500 thousand people are now declining.
Another factor ensuring the growth of the segment was the development of recurrent payments in fitness networks (monthly payment mechanism). In January – April, according to Mr. Borovikov, they accounted for 38 out of 52 new discoveries. Dmitry Iekhko notes that the subscription models, as a rule, provide a faster investment return and a stable flow of money. At the same time, the format, according to him, is popular with the young audience.
Mr. Eushko does not exclude that in the coming years the pace of discoveries of fitness clubs will slow down due to the overall restraint of investors and exhaustion of price potential. Until now, some entrepreneurs have continued to implement projects planned even before the stage of substantial tightening of monetary policy, Maxim Borovikov states.
The average margin of fitness business has already begun to decline. FitnessData is now estimated at 14%. A year by the year, the indicator was reduced by one percentage point due to the growth of labor costs and the maintenance of objects. The national fitness community indicates that the value varies depending on the category of the object: in the mass segment it is 7%, in the premium-12%. “For the growth of profitability, it is necessary to optimize operating costs and increase the client base,” says Dmitry Ishko.
