New center President Bregy attacks the Federal Council

Philipp Matthias Bregy is bothered by the fact that the Federal Council decided on Wednesday about the voting procedure for the new EU contracts. « We shouldn’t let ourselves be rushed now, » he says.

He is not in office yet, but as good as certainly the new center president. On Friday, the party’s finding commission listened to its only candidate, Philipp Matthias Bregy, and – not surprisingly – found excellent qualified qualified in every respect. Before the Bundeshausmedien, Bregy took a comment on current political questions.

He showed himself aggressively. Asked how he personally stands for the decision of the Federal Council to only subordinate the new bilateral contracts with the EU to the people, but not to the state, the Valais National Council said: « In my view, it was not necessary to decide this question on the part of the Federal Council. » It should only be answered after the consultations if you know the consequences of the new contracts on the political procedures. Depending on the depending on the option, this can result in an optional or a mandatory referendum.

Remarkable: According to several independent sources for the optional referendum, the new middle federal council, Martin Pfister, has spoken out without a stunner. And as far as known, he did not push for a later decision.

Federal Councilor Pfister’s role shows how torn not only the FDP is in European policy, but also the middle. The Basel bidder Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter, for example, praised the decision of the Federal Council « as a sign of political continuity and coherence ».

How does the future President Bregy want to bridge these trenches in the party?

He assumes that there will be « a very constructive and good dialogue », he said on Friday. However, this is only possible when the contract lies on the table and you know what it says. In the middle everyone agreed that « that good relationships with our most important trading partner are needed ». And it was clear that common rules should apply in a common market. « But we shouldn’t let ourselves be rushed before we really know the details. » Serious politics is « studying, analyzing and then deciding ».
