New book reveals information about Princess Diana’s interview at BBC
Written with the collaboration of Charles Spencer, Diana’s younger brother, and with access to his emails Bbc acquired through a request for freedom of information, Dianarama promises « a radical reassessment of an important historical event ».
The book on the controversial interview The BBC Panorama with Diana, a princess of Wales, will be published later this year, entitled « Dianarama: Cheating, Trapping, Discovering » by Andy Webb.
It will include invisible material for the scandal about the methods used by BBC journalist Martin Bashir to secure the interview.

‘He does not regret’
A 2021 study found that Bashir falsified documents to acquire the landmark interview, in which Diana spoke honestly about the dissolution of her marriage and her struggles with bulimia.
The book is reportedly written with the full cooperation and support of Charles Spencer, her younger brother Diana. According to the survey, Bashir showed Spencer fake banking situations to gain a acquaintance with Diana.
Statements showed that people were paid to watch the princess. However, in a note in December 1995, Diana wrote that she « agreed to an interview with Panorama without any unjustified pressure » and that she « does not regret the issue ».
Disclosure of fraud
Dianarama’s author, Andy Webb, had « unparalleled access to secret documents and key players of Princess Diana’s family as well as the BBC », according to the book’s description of the book by the publisher.
Former BBC reporter « prompted the revelation of Bashir’s fraud to persuade Diana to interview. »
Webb previously directed a documentary that explored Bashir’s methods and aired on Channel 4 in 2020.
And in 2021 he filed a request for freedom of information to the BBC for emails about Bashir sent among the company’s bosses during a three -month period in 2020.

‘Documents are clearly withheld’
Eventually he was sent more than 3,000 messages, amounting to 10,000 pages.
In an email sent on October 19, 2019, a lawyer told a Panorama author that the BBC « does not release all internal investigations right now » as the BBC later said.
Webb said the broadcasting body « clearly admits that documents are withheld », equivalent to « concealment ».
Of the biggest scandals in the broadcasting
Dianarama is the « true story of one of the biggest scandals in public life and in the history of broadcasting, revealing a concealment of shocking dimensions around which there are still questions to date, » the publisher said in a statement on his acquisition.
« It is rare to come across a book that presents a radical reassessment of an important historical event, let alone a book written by the person who, in persistence, brought to light this story, » said a spokesman for the publishing house Penguin Michael Joseph, who will publish the book on November 20th.
« It is a story of ‘David vs. Goliath’, a lonely journalist who puts one of the most respected British institutions, along with his high -level executives. »
