The CEC emphasizes that the statements issued in the public space are not truthful that, for example, an oval plus sign will not be « credited ».
The Commission recalls that the ballot may be left unchanged to vote in the local elections, but may also express a special attitude towards one of the candidates. Along with the name of each candidate, there are two different colors of different colors, and the voter can paint the white oval in the green field, if specifically supports a candidate, or paint the white oval in the red field if the particular candidate seems unacceptable.
The CVK emphasizes that these fields do not necessarily have to be fully painted – the vote counting system will recognize the mark done if, for example, the habit of a plus sign or a crook or any other streaks or paintings.
It has already been reported that the visual appearance of the ballot papers and the conditions for their completion have been changed before these municipal elections.
Until now, it was customary that the candidates, who are particularly supported by a particular voter, could be marked with a « + » sign, but the unwanted – simply to be deleted. According to the new polling mark model, alongside each candidate, there will be two different colors, and the voter will be able to paint one – a green colored field, if specifically supported by a candidate, or to paint the other – a red -painted field if the candidate seems unacceptable.
The instructions for completing the new ballot papers are available in each polling station, in each election compartment. Such a change in the ballot model is required to ensure automatic votes counting in subsequent elections, as well as a referendum. In other words, the same type of voting signs will be used in the upcoming municipal elections in 2025, in the Saeima elections 2026, and in the European Parliament elections in 2029.
