Netflix prominently staged the demigods in white
« Chicago Med », « Chicago Hope », « Dr. House », « New Amsterdam » or « Betty’s Diagnosis » and « Hippocrate »: medical series, today they would have to be referred to as hospital series for reasons of equal rights, are real TV bracers.
Series with soap coat and a lot of heartache celebrate great success. This is confirmed by the success of the “General Hospital” format (since 1963) and “Grey’s Anatomy” (since 2005). Even the German television landscape has fallen for the doctors. « In all friendship » has attracted million to the flicker box since 1998.
« A little fresh blood could not hurt » is not only the motto of the medical specialist: Netflix also wants to revitalize the genre with several productions and started with a bloody attack by the white coat last year; Similar to Apple TV+ with « sick Berlin ». It started with the Spanish series “Respira” about the tense situation in a fictional clinic in Valencia. « The trauma code: Heroes on Call » from South Korea followed in early 2025. As was to be assumed: slightly over the top and yet an audience hit.
A fateful relationship
And now « Pulse », a new newcomer from the motherland of the hospital series. At the center of the action is the young doctor Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald). Surprisingly, she is declared the head of the Maguire Hospital emergency room in Miami. Her previous superior and Lover Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) was removed from his post. There is a complaint against him about an inadmissible relationship; The person who accuses him is Danny Simms himself.
In comparison with Danny Simms, even Dr. Gregory House like a real sympathizer.
But that’s not all. A storm ensures chaos on Florida’s east coast and also in the Maguire Hospital for unrest and highly dramatic situations. Not only a human life is at stake … And not just a career in the medical field threatens to end an abrupt end due to a wrong decision.
That not only sounds known, but it is also: In various hospital series, spectators were already able to experience the effects of natural disasters and internal disagreements on everyday clinical life. Here, “Pulse” can convince with some interesting narrative strands, but also do not really contribute to the genre.

Especially since there is a lot in the unclear. Above all, the (supposedly) reprehensible connection of the two protagonists. On closer inspection, this turns out to be an ordinary relationship. This raises questions. A lot of noise about nothing – that is the conclusion after consumption of the decisive episodes. But is the assessment of this fictional dependency relationship, which is involuntarily carried out as a viewer, justified?
No figure of identification
The scriptwriters-in addition to Carlton Cuse (« Lost ») this is also a series maker Zoe Robyn (« Hawaii 5-0 »)-also missed the chance to focus on a figure that flooded the hearts of the viewers. Despite her vulnerability and a severe family history, young doctor Danny, unlike Meredith Gray in the hits series « Grey’s Anatomy », shines as a figure of identification. This could harm “Pulse” sustainably and possibly stand in the way of a second season.
Désirée Nosbusch is shown in a new television series as a strict BKA investigator
Much worse: As a viewer, you want to bring about the failure of the female figure, which only occurs feministly feminist. Because in comparison with doctor Danny, even Dr. Gregory House from the hit series of the same name like a real sympathizer. And that is really a very weird bird.
The ten episodes of the first season of « Pulse » are available on Netflix.
