– This is not fun – warns Dr. Eryk Matuszkiewicz, a toxicologist. – It’s a Russian roulette. People go to a ward in convulsions, with hallucinations, fight for their lives, not even knowing what they took.
It starts as always: someone brings « something new ». One draws in, the other vaporizes, the third swallows. And then? Aggression, hallucinations, loss of consciousness. Statistics show that from year to year the illegal turnover of NEP is growing – and what is now revealed by the Police Headquarters leaves no illusions.

NEP is not created in Poland. He arrives. – The main source of this substance is China – informs Aleksander Pradun from the Social Communication Office of the Police Headquarters in an interview with « Fakt ». – It goes to Europe through smuggling channels, mainly to the Netherlands, and from there it is further distributed to Poland.

NEP statistics in Poland:
- 2021: 34 kg
- 2022: 3.9 kg
- 2023: 10.8 kg
- 2024: 17.9 kg
- 2025 (only January and February!): 13.2 kg
This is more than in the whole of 2022 – in just two months!

What happens to the NEP man?
NEP, or n-ethylonorpentedron, is a derivative of a mephedrone-a drug that decimated toxicological troops a decade ago. It works like amphetamine and ecstasy at the same time.
– People who get to us often do not know what they took – says Dr. Matuszkiewicz. – NEP can burn the body from the inside. It strikes the central nervous system, causes psychosis, circulatory failure. And death.
LEADING? Yes. But chemists are not sleeping
In 2018, Poland tightened the law: afterburners were recognized as substitutes, their production faces up to 12 years in prison. The Minister of Health may delegate entire groups of substances – before they go to the market. But it’s a race with time.
– Chemists change the structure of one molecule and have a « new » drug that is not yet on the list – explains the toxicologist. – And it goes to the market again. Again, someone reaches for « new ». And again someone lands in the dissecting room.
Gis beats the alarm. The police monitor
The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate warns: NEP can kill even one dose. And the police not only monitor the turnover and take over the next parties, but also do not hide: what we see today can be only the tip of the iceberg.

Experts have no illusions – NEP is not addicted. This is a drug drug. For those who « try once ».
– And it is often too much this one time – says Dr. Matuszkiewicz. – Education, conversation, awareness is the most important weapon today. Because NEP doesn’t look like a poison. But she is.
