Negrescu. The future of Europe is deciding now, Romania must be prepared

The PSD MEP Victor Negrescu considers that the international meetings that will take place in the coming days are essential for the stability of Europe, and Romania must be prepared for any scenario.

« The meetings of the following days are essential for the stability of our continent. All the discussions we had with American partners in Washington and with European leaders in different capitals show that the peace plan now will now influence if and how we can protect ourselves from those who threaten the sovereignty of our nations. Romania is directly interested in these decisions-we need a solution that guarantees peace, security, sovereignty and our European future ”, said Negrescu in a statement sent to the press on Sunday.

According to him, in the international meetings, essential aspects such as: the path to peace, the security guarantees, the degree of involvement of the European states, reconstruction, who will manage peace negotiations, the long -term security, the energy security but also the strengthening of the strategic alliances will be discussed.

'We need a clear strategy to prevent future conflicts and to support a fair and sustainable agreement to ensure the stability of the region. A US-European agreement on the peace plan is necessary, 'says the MEP.

In his opinion, any plan must include firm measures for border protection and the defense of sovereignty, including regarding the cyber security and foreign interference, and Romania, on the border of the conflict, must be an active part in these decisions.

At the same time, says Negrescu, guarantees must also include the Republic of Moldova.

« The European Union must act unitary for peace within an international mandate that prevents any escalation of the conflict. Romania must ensure that support is fair and that our interests are protected. (…) A vital process not only for the affected regions, but also for the Romanian economy. Investment and partnership opportunities for Romanian companies will influence our future development. Reconstruction must be financed including from Russian assets. (…) Romania must be present at the decisions table, not only to take note of the solutions imposed. European leaders are most likely to designate a chief negotiator. (…) It is not just about the cessation of a conflict, but the construction of a system that prevents future aggression. Romania needs safety and predictability ', says Victor Negrescu.

He believes that Romania and Europe must reduce their dependence on the energy resources of other states, and accelerating investments in infrastructure and own resources are essential.

« Transatlantic relations and NATO cooperation must be consolidated. At the same time, Europe must expand their strategic and economic cooperation with all the states that share the values of common democracy and security, ”says the PSD MEP.

He states that next week he will participate, as vice-president of the European Social Democrats (PES), at a high-level meeting with the president of the European Council and the heads of state and social-democratic governments.

« The future is not earned by waiting, but by a determined action. Romania must be an active actor, strong and respected in these negotiations, « concluded the Social-Democratic MEP.
