A 19-year-old Dutchman was arrested by the investigating judge for attempted manslaughter. The man tried to drive a cop on Friday night near Kaai 614.
The Shipping Police wanted to check a car with a Dutch number plate in the Antwerp port area on Friday night, near Kaai 614. « The driver ignored the orders of the police and deliberately drove towards one agent, » says spokesperson Kristof Aerts of the Antwerp Public Prosecutor’s Office.
« The man could rescue by grabbing the window frame of the vehicle, but was thus dragged several meters. » The police officer fell, he was fortunately only slightly injured.
Eventually the police could stop the car. The occupants, three Dutch people, were arrested. « It is about the 19-year-old driver and two 16-year-olds. The investigation shows that they were looking for a batch of cocaine, » says Aerts.
The day before, three suspects were already arrested during an attempt to remove Kaai 614, then the police seized about 50 kilograms of cocaine. It is not yet clear whether the Dutch were looking for the same load of drugs.
The 19-year-old Dutchman was arrested on Sunday for attempted manslaughter and trade of drugs in association. The two minors were placed in a closed institution by the juvenile court.
« The investigation is being continued under the leadership of the investigating judge, » says Aerts.
