Near the Galapago Islands, a vessel with five fishermen from Peru was found in Ecuador, which drifted the sea for 55 days. To survive, they had to collect water from the engine and drink rain water.

Three Peruvians and two Columbians disappeared in mid -March. Then they left Peru on a fishing boat in the sea, but in a few days reported a breakdown.

The vessel damaged the AC generator, which led to a malfunction of communication and navigation. There were no other sources of electricity on board.

« They did not have starter, lighting and everything generated by battery »– said the Navy of the Navy of Ecuador Maria Fares.

In order to survive, the fishermen collected « rusty water from the engine » and cooked the fish that was able to catch. According to the Navy representative, men also drank rain and seawater.

The fishermen were found on May 7 near Ecuador. In total, they spent 55 days in the sea.

Currently, the condition of the rescued is stable. The Ecuadorian authorities reported that it coordinates actions with foreign countries to safely return the fishermen home.
