NATO Secretary General advises Zelenski
Mark Rutte said on Saturday that he asked Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski to « repair » his relationship with Donald Trump.
NATO Secretary General also said « to respect everything he did » for Ukraine, AFP and EFE reports.
« … I think, dear Volodimir, that you have to find a means to repair your relationship with Donald Trump and the American administration, » said Mark Rutte in an interview with the BBC.
Rutte qualified as « very unhappy » the meeting between Zelenski and Trump at the White House on Friday.
« We talked twice on the phone with Zelenski and I told him we should continue together to reach a sustainable peace (…). I told him that we must respect what Trump has done so far for Ukraine, « said Mark Rutte.
He referred in particular to Javelin's portable missile launchers, which Trump (during his first term, 2017-2021) provided Kiev in 2019, « without Ukraine had no chance » at the time of the Russian invasion in 2022, notes EFE.
« We have to recognize his merit (to Trump) for this and for everything he does, » said NATO Secretary General.
Rutte also told Zelenski that « he has to find a way to repair his relationship with Trump » and praised the American leader to 'break the blockade' in the war taking the initiative to talk to Russia.
