I think your observation is correct. Of course, when they get in their position, I can understand why maybe officials in Latvia do it. There are several reasons, one of which might be that they do not want to cause any additional complications in their relations with Allied countries, first of all with the US. Because it is clear that as soon as the minister, the president or the prime minister says something, it can immediately have a negative impact on cross -border relations. But at the same time, it should be noted that if this is not done – there is no clear language, a firm position – then it should be borne in mind that the leadership of these countries reads the statements of our leaders and, if they are gentle, lukewarm, unjustifice, agreeing, they can calmly believe,  » Of course, there is also a dilemma of talking to the public itself, and it depends on each politician's understanding of how it is right.

I think it is wrong to blame the stir of officials or raising panic if people allow them to look at the gloomiest scenarios and the most negative threats. Because it is clear that society and every person are afraid of war, something that threatens his well -being, life, children. On the other hand, for at least seven years, we have talked about comprehensive protection, and unfortunately, the tendency of society not only in Latvia, but throughout Western Europe, is that people do not want to imagine that they might happen somewhere in Syria or Ukraine: « It will not come to us! » This means that the public is not serious about all these risks and is not prepared for them, and here we can talk about civil protection plans, of different types of training, because in those seven years much less have been done.
