National Council wants to ban premiums according to origin

Kosovar pensioners are dripped at car insurance: National Council wants to ban premiums according to origin

The red pass is hundreds of francs: Swiss people get away much better at car insurance than people from the Balkans. This is a clear case of discrimination, says Hasan Candan. The SP National Council calls on the Federal Council for action.

Liridona Dizdari comes from Kosovo. The young nurse has been naturalized for a long time. It can not only vote and coordinate it, but also protects the family budget: Dizdari saves hundreds of francs every year with vehicle insurance. She realized this when she heard about her colleagues from her country of origin. The bonus differences are a nuisance and discriminatory, she told Ch Media.

The tariff design with nationality as a criterion has been a media topic for years. Only last year did one Analysis of the comparis comparison service for headlines. According to this, for example, young drivers from Kosovo and Northern Macedonia (plus 74 percent each) and Turkey (plus 73 percent) pay more massive bonuses for fully comprehensive insurance for a Mercedes-Benz GLC as Swiss.

Few 20-year-olds are likely to curve at the wheel of a high-up class over Swiss streets. So the nurse has fed the premium calculator of an insurance company with the data of a retired woman living in the canton of Lucerne – once with Swiss, once with a Kosovar passport.

The result: not only for young drivers, but also with pensioners there is a penalty of origin. For example, with fully comprehensive insurance for a new VW Polo 1.0 TSI base, the retired Swiss woman saves the retired Kosovarin with the market leader AXA CHF 738. The difference is 49 percent.

Hasan Candan has been dealing with the topic of vehicle insurance premiums for a long time. The Lucerne SP National Council demands: « The Federal Council must end this unequal treatment due to nationality. » This type of clan like violates the constitutional principle of protection against discrimination.
